Project Funding Sources
This housing Project replaces homes lost to a nearby tornado. Some of the specific LGG tasks completed include:
Nehemiah Homes was the development of 20 new single-family mixed income rental homes on nearby sites on the east side of Springfield. All of the 20 units in the development are affordable with 11 available for low income tenants and 9 available for very low income tenants. In addition, the Springfield Housing Authority provided an assignment of Project Based Section 8 to four units of the development. The development has 5 four-bedroom units, 10 three-bedroom units and 5 two-bedroom units. The project sponsor has developed a tenant ownership plan for converting the units after the 15-year tax credit compliance term. This project was built very near the area of Springfield that was ravaged by severe storms and tornadoes on March 12, 2006. Tornadoes caused extensive damage to homes, businesses and public property. On March 13, Gov. Blagojevich declared seven counties state disaster areas and asked President Bush to declare several tornado-ravaged counties as federal disaster areas.
