The Nehemiah Homes project is a family development of 30 new single-family mixed income rental homes on various sites in the Eastside Neighborhood of Springfield, Illinois. This project marked the second phase of Nehemiah Homes. The first phase was funded by IHDA and a private tax credit investment in 2006 and is constructed and fully leased. The project was initiated by Calvary Baptist Church through its non-profit entity, Nehemiah Expansion, which is involved in all aspects of the development of this project. The project was initiated to provide decent affordable housing in an area of Springfield that was ravaged by storms in 2006 and deemed by Governor Blagojevich as a state disaster area.
The Calvary Baptist Church provides tenant meeting and activity space at their church nearby. The development also includes access to an outdoor playground constructed in Phase I of the development for the children of the development’s residents.
