The Children’s Place Association celebrated the grand opening of West Humboldt Place on October 9, 2015. West Humboldt Place is a new construction permanent supportive housing development located at 3533 West Chicago Avenue, Chicago, IL, in the Humboldt Park neighborhood. West Humboldt Place will provide housing for 13 families and/or individuals impacted by homelessness and living with serious illness or life-changing health conditions.
Children’s Place Association, a nonprofit organization, developed a comprehensive approach to helping children and families break the cycle of poverty and illness by helping with medical services, food and shelter. “We’re not just a housing provider, we provide a future”, said Daniel Dever, Director of Development and Communications for Children’s Place. West Humboldt Place provides space for counseling and play areas for children on the ground floor and the residences are above on the second and third floors.
The site where the new development now stands was vacant for many years. The light-filled building, designed by Landon Bone Baker Architects, contributes to the redevelopment in Humboldt Park “This will be a great addition to the Humboldt Park community,” said Alderman Burnett. Those who spoke at the ground breaking shared a common overall theme of happiness and excitement.
Lightengale Group helped make the project a reality by providing numerous services including coordinating the pre-development loan, architect and general contractor coordination, project budgets and financing through IHDA’s Permanent Supportive Housing program, the City of Chicago TIF, DCEO, and Federal Home Loan Bank. Lightengale also assisted the owner’s representatives throughout construction and coordinated the construction draws. This is Lightengale Group’s second project with The Children’s Place Association.
