DEVELOPER INFO:
New Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church (NPMBC), the project sponsor, is a well-established member of the community. New Pisgah has made public outreach and supports a primary part of its mission. New Pisgah manages an annual budget of over $1 million and hires nearly all of its employees from the community. Through the church and affiliate organizations, NPMBC helps to build the community by creating better living conditions, creating jobs for people in the community, and helping the growth of minority businesses. NPMBC is also the sponsor of two HUD 202 senior living independent buildings, both of which are located in Auburn Gresham.
PROJECT INFO:
Veterans New Beginnings is a four-story, 54-unit new construction project for homeless veterans located at 81st and Racine in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood. The first floor has tenant amenities, including a fitness room, library, computer/technology room, recreation room with TV, dining room with a warming kitchen and training and counseling rooms. All dwelling units are located on floors 2-4 and include a small kitchen and bathroom in each unit. All units have project-based rental assistance so that all residents pay 30% of their income towards rent. All units are furnished with a microwave, bed, bureau, round table, two chairs, pillows, and sheets. The kitchen includes a stove and refrigerator.
The facility offers a long list of services for residents including job counseling, VA benefits education, case management, drug, and alcohol abuse counseling, GED preparation, education, classroom vocation training, computer training, and health and wellness training.
