Lead Developer: A Safe Haven Foundation (ASH) currently owns and operates 33 buildings and manages nearly 700 supportive housing units throughout Chicago and surrounding suburbs.
In its 20 year history, ASH has provided a sober living alternative to over 50,000 people in recovery from alcoholism and drug addiction, with an unprecedented success rate of over 71% of its residents maintaining sobriety and successfully re-entering their communities. Over the years, it has developed an extensive service network of over 150 community-based providers aimed at addressing the fundamental issues that contribute to crime and recidivism, including substance abuse, mental health/trauma, poverty and lack of employment, and homelessness in the last 2 years.
Co-Developer: West Suburban Neighborhood Preservation Agency (WSNPA) is an intergovernmental agency created in 1978 which oversees rehabilitation activities in the villages of Bellwood, Broadview, Forest Park, Melrose Park, Stone Park, Franklin Park, Hillside, Schiller Park, Berkeley, Brookfield, LaGrange, Northlake, Maywood, Bridgeview, and Chicago Ridge.
PROJECT INFO:
A Safe Haven Veteran Village is an affordable family development of 35 units in new 2- and 4-flats on various vacant, infill lots around Westlake Community Hospital (“Westlake”) in a vibrant area of Melrose Park. This development is geared toward veterans and their families and consists of two-, three-, and four-bedroom units. All units include a microwave, dishwasher, and a porch. Additional amenities include an on-site management office, a social services office, and a playground.

LGG helped development partners A Safe Haven Foundation and Melrose Park-based West Suburban Housing Development Corporation create a structure to work together on the project and worked with very supportive local government officials and Westlake Community Hospital to secure the site for development.
