DEVELOPER INFO:
Alexian Brothers Housing and Health Alliance provides stable housing and support services for individuals impacted by poverty, homelessness, chronic diseases, mental health and substance abuse/recovery. Their goal is to enhance the quality of life through a comprehensive, holistic approach that promotes healing of the whole person; body, mind, and spirit.
PROJECT INFO:
Bettendorf Place is Alexian Brothers Housing and Health Alliance’s first facility on the South Side of Chicago. Bettendorf Place provides permanent supportive housing for men and women with qualifying disabilities. A complete rehabilitation of a convent in the South Chicago neighborhood, Bettendorf Place holds 23 studio apartments, common meeting spaces, office for counseling and support staff, laundry facilities, and a technology learning center. Bettendorf Place also offers space for community outreach, partnership and educational classes. Bettendorf Place incorporated green building initiatives such as a solar thermal hot water system paid for by the Illinois Clean Energy Grant, insulated flooring, energy star appliances, gas filled thermal pane windows, exterior walls insulated with foam and landscaping requiring minimal watering. All units are fully furnished. Bettendorf Place offers our tenants a wide array of supportive services, utilizing a harm reduction model. Harm reduction is a non-judgmental set of practical strategies that reduce negative consequences of risky behaviors. Harm reduction strategies meet individuals “where they’re at.” It is strengths-based and considers the tenant to be the expert in his/her life.
